Smuggling of illegal drugs at Bangkok Airport
On Monday, the Thailand customs authorities have detained an Indian citizen named Kalyanasuntaram Karuppaiyan, suspected of smuggling illegal drugs at the Suvarnabhumi airport, which serves Bangkok.
The suspected Indian citizen, a 38 year old, was an inbound passenger traveling from Chennai, India. The man was arrested after the customs inspectors have checked his luggage, who in their investigation, have found 7.4 kg package of crystal substance identified as Ketamine worth Bt22 million (US$666,000). This drug was found in a specially designed secret compartment in his luggage.
Later on, the authorities have detained the suspect and charged with the attempted smuggling of illicit drugs to the region and have sent him to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.
